Revealed: The worst places in the UK for construction noise

Some of the UK’s biggest cities have ranked among the worst affected by noise pollution in a recent study.

People living in London and Edinburgh were found to be the most affected by nuisance construction noise in the Herts Tools study, which measured the number of Google searches into noise complaints across the country.

Londoners search about noise pollution at least 600 times a month, alongside Northern powerhouses Leeds and Huddersfield.

Both London and Leeds have been the focus of continued high-scale urbanisation for years, with the capital alone being home to up to 25,000 newbuilds in the last decade.

Blackpool on the other hand ranked lowest, with 140 searches a month.

What does this mean for your business?

Noise pollution is an issue the public are growing increasingly passionate about. This is especially true in London, where the problem has been covered extensively in the press.

Public frustration can lead to a rise in complaints and a subsequent increase in pressure for contractors to take their responsibilities seriously.

Failure to protect the public from noise can lead to fines under the Control of Pollution Act 1974 – which can quickly mount into the tens of thousands of pounds.

It is therefore imperative for all construction projects to have a noise mitigation plan in place – and that’s where Echo Barrier can help.
